McArthur Burney Falls State Park

This was a great stop on a long road trip to Seattle. The McArthur Burney Falls State park is definitely off the beaten path, but a great destination to rest for a day or three and unwind. A relatively small campground park with cabins, but a lot of amenities in great condition.

Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden in Cape Town

There are many phenomenal things to see in Cape Town, and this botanical garden offers a nice peaceful rest from being on the go in South Africa. Take your time, mosey along the trails, and you’ll see some plants that might only be possible in a few parts of the world.

Elephant Sanctuary Hartbeespoortdam

Several years ago I had the good fortune of going to Johannesburg South Africa. An adventure for sure in all the ways that word implies. But one of the true highlights was a trip to the Hartbeespoortdam Elephant Sanctuary.

I can say with certainty that you want to live in a world in which you have a 6,000 lb elephant as a friend that travels everywhere with you. I got to walk with one for about 50 yards and there is nothing like it.

In my feet I felt the vibration of his steps landing on the ground a few feet behind me.
